There are many occasions where we need to know more detail about what our residents, partners and wider communities think about specific issues that affect them. We are keen to ensure that local people have a voice and an opportunity to influence important decisions.

The annual budget is one of the most important decisions we make because it sets out how we:

  • Spend money
  • Prioritise local services
  • Invest for the future

The annual budget is probably the biggest, most complex exercise that we undertake as part of our annual cycle. Getting this process right is vital to our success and contributes significantly to what we achieve for the local area. It is essential that we set a sustainable budget which supports long-term financial resilience to enable our plans and aspirations to flourish.

If done well, budget consultation provides an opportunity to really connect with the public about the work of the council and why that work is so important to many people's lives.

Our net revenue budget is in the region of £220m per annum. It provides a wide range of services from waste collections to leisure facilities, parks and open spaces to environmental health, support for families and those in housing crisis, and social care. So, it is important that residents and other stakeholders are involved in the decision-making process.
