Residents are being made aware of changes to the council’s garden waste collection service which are being made for 2026/27.

The authority is moving to a new online subscription system and as part of this change, the way people pay for the service will be different.

All residents will need to register for an account and sign up again to ensure that their brown bin is collected after 27 April.

Online annual reoccurring payments are now open and you can sign up for the 2026/2027 subscription on our website. You will automatically be signed up to a re-occurring annual payment, however can opt out of this through your account.

Online monthly re-occurring payment subscriptions will open on Wednesday 15 April using the same link. If you choose this option:

  • Payments will be taken automatically from your debit or credit card
  • The cost will be split across the year in 12 instalments
  • You do not need to sign up again as this will continue for future subscriptions
  • This replaces Direct Debit, but works in a similar way

The new system will provide improved online access allowing users to manage their accounts and payment details.

Over the phone payment also opens on 15 April, with only annual subscription payments accepted. You can sign up by calling 01733 425425 (option 3). If you try to ring before 15 April, your call will go to voicemail.

Charlotte Palmer, Peterborough City Council’s Service Director for Environment and Climate Change, said: “We appreciate people's patience while we introduce this improved system, which is designed to make managing your garden waste subscription easier and more flexible going forward. If you have any questions about the changes or need help with signing up, please do not hesitate to contact us.”

Householders who sign up for the service will have their brown bin(s) emptied on the same week as black bin (refuse) collections, fortnightly from 27 April 2026 until 23 April 2027.

The annual cost for one brown bin remains at £58 and for a second brown bin is an extra £31.50.
