An Armed Forces Family Fun Day will be held in June in Peterborough to honour our military personnel past and present.
Cathedral Square will host the event on Saturday 21 June to commemorate the service of men and women in the British Armed Forces.
The day will feature live music, choirs, stalls and interviews with veterans and cadets, from 11am to 7pm. Mayor Cllr Judy Fox will open the Family Fun Day at 11am, arriving with an army band, before a speech from Armed Forces Champion Cllr Jason McNally.
The event, which has been kindly sponsored by Keepmoat, will be compered by broadcaster Paul Stainton.
Musical performers will include Peterborough Ukulele Band, operatic singer Gabriella, the Midnight Hoboes, Aradhya Saha and Adam Hoffman.
Wittering Community Choir will entertain just after lunch, to be followed by Zumba Fun and Fit with Jessica.
Other highlights include a poetry reading from Peterborough Poet Laureate Alex Tyler, and interviews with veterans, courtesy of Cllr McNally and Cllr John Fox. There will also be numerous stalls and appearances from cadets on the day.
Cllr McNally said: “The Family Fun Day will be an excellent and enjoyable way for the people of Peterborough to celebrate the achievements and sacrifices of our armed forces personnel and their families.
“We hope to see a busy and vibrant Cathedral Square on June 21, enjoying the live music and choirs and appreciating the stories of our veterans.”
On Saturday June 28 there will be ceremonial events outside the Town Hall and Cathedral Square from 10am, including a military procession and speeches from dignitaries.
The Armed Forces flag will be raised in a small ceremony outside the town hall on June 23.
