A week-long celebration of our armed forces and their families will begin with a flag-raising ceremony on Monday, 22 June.

The Mayor of the City of Peterborough, Cllr Chris Harper, will lead a short service at the start of Armed Forces week and raise a specially commissioned Armed Forces flag above the Town Hall at 10am on Monday.

Local authorities across the United Kingdom will raise a flag in the week leading up to Armed Forces Day to recognise all those who serve and have served for our country.

Armed Forces Day itself - Saturday, 27 June - allows the nation to show its appreciation to all those who serve or have served in His Majesty’s Armed Forces, performing a variety of duties such as war fighting, peacekeeping, humanitarian relief, search and rescue and much more.

The Armed Forces Day celebrations will take place from 10am to 4pm in Cathedral Square beginning with a Civic Parade.

There will be live music throughout the day, alongside military displays and vehicles and a number of charity stalls manned by cadet, active service and veterans groups.

There will also be a special RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight flypast during the day from BBMF which has Spitfires, a Hurricane, a Lancaster and a C-47 Dakota among its inventory.

The exact time will be pinpointed nearer the day, depending on weather, operational issues, and serviceability of aircraft.
