Young people receiving their A-Level and GCSE results this month are invited to special free events aimed at giving them advice and support on further education, employment and training.
The council, in partnership with the city’s Youth Hubs, is holding two events for young people feeling unsure of their next steps after getting their exam results and for those who would benefit from helpful advice on a range of subjects.
Both events are being held on exam results day and people can attend on a drop-in basis. The events will bring together education providers, employers, training organisations and support services under one roof, helping young people understand their options and confidently plan their next steps.
- A-Level Results Day Careers Event 'Discovering Your Next Chapter' takes place on Thursday 13 August at Peterborough Youth Hub at Peterborough United FC, Weston Homes Stadium, in London Road from 11.30am until 4pm.
- GCSE Results Day Careers Event, 'Discovering Your Next Chapter' takes place on Thursday 20 August at The BRDG in Bridge Street, Peterborough, also from 11.30am to 4pm.
Cllr Katy Cole, Peterborough City Council’s Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: "Getting exam results is an exciting time for young people but it can be highly stressful and leave them feeling uncertain. These helpful events will provide reassurance, practical support and real opportunities for young people regardless of their results, whilst showcasing Peterborough as a city full of employment, apprenticeship opportunities and training pathways.”
Both events will promote apprenticeship, employment and training opportunities, as well as increasing awareness of career pathways available locally. Staff will look to connect young people directly with employers and colleges and showcase Peterborough City Council as an employer and key supporter of young people's progression.
Attendees will also get access to immediate advice and guidance through Personal Advisers, Job Coaches and Youth Hub staff, who will encourage them to take positive next steps before the end of the summer.
