More than £84,000 of benefit savings have been identified for eligible residents in Peterborough in less than two months - thanks to our Better Off Calculator.
The calculator launched on the Peterborough City Council website in January, giving residents a chance to identify potential benefits to which they are entitled if they answer a few simple questions.
A total of 68 households showed interest and have been found eligible for £84.8k of benefits including Universal Credit, pension credit, Carer’s Allowance and Warm Homes Discounts.
Of those, 31% had never claimed any benefits before, and applicants have ranged in age, employment status, housing situation and number of children.
The calculator can be found on our money and benefits page, alongside information on a range of services and support as part of our 'For your Benefit' campaign.
Cabinet member for Communities, Poverty and Public Health Cllr Zameer Ali said: “This is an excellent start for a campaign aiming to alert those residents who might not be aware of the benefits to which they’re entitled.
“In 2026 and beyond we will be trying to help people become more financially resilient where possible, but we recognise that there are some individuals and households who might need help and we want to enable that.”
The council is also rolling out a new three-year Crisis Resilience Fund (CRF), which will aim to support for families and individuals to become financially stable in the longer-term.
The fund, which will go live in April, will also provide emergency assistance for people who are in short-term financial crisis.
