You can pick up a jolly jumper fit for the festive season at our first ever Community Christmas Swap Event next month.

We’ll be offering residents the chance to donate, swap or take items for FREE at the event at the Riverside Bar, Key Theatre, on 28 November.

So whether it’s a super snowman sweater, a wonderful wise men woolly, or a cracker of a cardigan, you’ll find them all at the swap from 11am to 2pm on 28 November.

Donations can also be dropped off in advance at the following locations:

  • Key Theatre Reception
  • Town Hall
  • Sand Martin House Reception

Our main focus is Christmas jumpers, giving residents the opportunity to donate, swap or pick up a jumper ahead of Christmas Jumper Day in early December.

However, we’re also encouraging donations of toys and unused gifts in new or very good condition; coats; and hats.

The event follows the success of the School Uniform Shop in St Peter’s Arcade, which has seen more than 1,000 items find new homes since August.

Cabinet member for the Environment Cllr Chris Wiggin said: “We know the damage that throwing away clothes can cause to the environment, especially when they are still wearable.

“So this is a novel twist on reusing jumpers that may be unwanted, or may not fit or be suitable anymore – and gives people a chance to get a sparkling new item in return!”

At the Christmas jumper event, there’ll also be festive live music, and we’ll be joined by Co-op Group and Our Co-op, who will be providing free activities, Fairtrade refreshments, and opportunities to win prizes for those who show their Co-op membership card or app.

Family Hubs, the School Uniform Shop and a range of other partners will also be attending, with more announcements to follow.

Cabinet member for Children and Young People Cllr Katy Cole said: “This wonderful event is open to everyone across the city, whether you're looking to donate, pick up an item, get involved in the community, or access a little extra support this winter.

“Those who celebrate Christmas and those who simply want to help are all welcome.”
