Plans to improve facilities at Eye C of E Primary School and create a dedicated area for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) are set to be considered by the council’s Cabinet.
The proposed scheme would see a new car park and reception area built at the school, improving access, parking and drop-off arrangements for pupils, families, staff and visitors. The school’s existing reception space would then be refurbished and repurposed to provide a designated SEND area, helping to create additional local specialist provision for children who need more tailored support.
The plans will be discussed by Cabinet on Thursday 1 October and include a new access road being delivered by Allison Homes as part of a Section 106 Agreement linked to nearby housing development. This has allowed the council and the school to look again at how the site works day to day and make better use of the existing building to support children’s learning.
If approved, the project would form part of Peterborough’s wider work to increase local SEND provision and support more children closer to home. The council is developing more specialist and inclusion spaces within mainstream schools, helping children remain connected to their local communities wherever this is the right provision for them.

“By improving access to the school, creating a new reception area and making better use of existing space, we can support the school community and provide more specialist support locally for children who need it.
“We know how important it is for children and families to have the right support as close to home as possible. This proposal reflects our commitment to building a more inclusive local education system, where children can feel supported, included and able to thrive alongside their peers.”
Eye C of E Primary School is a two-form entry primary school currently able to accommodate up to 420 pupils. The school is fully engaged in the design process with Peterborough City Council to ensure the proposed provision is fit for purpose and works well for pupils, staff and families.
The project budget is estimated at £5.374 million, funded through Basic Need Capital and High Needs Grant funding, with no borrowing required. Around £509,000 of the total is expected to be allocated to the SEND element of the scheme.
Subject to Cabinet approval, design work is expected to begin in September 2026, with construction of the new car park and reception planned from July to December 2027. Construction of the SEND area is currently expected to take place from January to February 2028, although dates may be subject to change as design and contractor engagement progresses.
