Resolved: At the end of the petition period
We have a duty to determine school term dates for Local Authority maintained schools, which must be open to pupils for 190 days in an academic year, and 195 days for teachers.
Foundation, Voluntary Aided, Academies and Free schools are responsible for setting their own dates and so may choose to follow a pattern and/or specific dates that do not match those set by Peterborough City Council.
We work in conjunction with our neighbouring Local Authorities to set proposed dates for an academic year - this is known as the Eastern Region Model Calendar. We do this because it is better to have a co-ordinated approach to setting school term dates to minimise the impact on families and school transport providers. However, whilst our proposed dates align, we cannot guarantee that our term dates will be identical to those of our neighbours, as there is no formal mechanism for the regional setting of school term and holiday dates.
As always, there have been difficult decisions regarding some dates. Nevertheless, the way the dates have fallen has meant that we are able to propose full (rather than part) week breaks at both Christmas and Easter, which aligns with our neighbouring authorities.
Below are the proposed dates for maintained schools in Peterborough for the academic year 2027-28. These dates total 195 days, from which schools should choose five days to set aside as professional training days.
Autumn term dates 2027
- Wednesday 1 September 2027 to Friday 22 October 2027 (38 days)
- Half term: Monday 25 October 2027 to Friday 29 October 2027
- Monday 1 November 2027 to Friday 17 December 2027 (35 days)
- Christmas holidays: Monday 20 December 2027 to Friday 31 December 2027
Spring term dates 2028
- Tuesday 4 January 2028 to Friday 11 February 2028 (29 days)
- Half term: Monday 14 February 2028 to Friday 18 February 2028
- Monday 21 February 2028 to Friday 31 March 2028 (30 days)
- Easter holidays: Monday 3 April 2028 to Monday 17 April 2028
Summer term dates 2028
- Tuesday 18 April 2028 to Friday 26 May 2028 (28 days)
- Half term: Monday 29 May 2028 to Friday 2 June 2028
- Monday 5 June 2028 to Friday 21 July 2028 (35 days)
- Summer holiday: Monday 24 July 2028 onwards
