Community groups in Peterborough's Pride in Place neighbourhoods are being invited to apply for funding to deliver activities and projects during the summer holidays.
The new Summer Pride in Place Grant Scheme will provide two grant tiers of up to £500 and £5,000 respectively to support projects that bring people together, create opportunities for children and families during the school holidays, and improve local neighbourhoods.
The scheme is open to community organisations operating within the two Pride in Place areas: Paston, Gunthorpe and Welland plus Orton Malborne and Orton Goldhay.
Up to £50,000 has been allocated to each area for this first round of funding. Eligible projects could include summer clubs and activities, community events, environmental improvements, or initiatives that strengthen local pride and community spirit.
The grant programme marks the first funding opportunity to be delivered through Peterborough's Pride in Place programme, which will bring around £2 million a year into local communities over the next decade. The initiative is designed to empower residents to shape the future of their neighbourhoods and support projects that matter most to local people.
Alongside the launch of the grant scheme, progress is being made in establishing the Neighbourhood Boards that will oversee the programme in each area. The initial boards will be announced shortly following a public recruitment process.
From 2027, the Neighbourhood Boards will lead the development of long-term neighbourhood plans, ensuring investment is guided by local priorities and community aspirations.
Interested groups can obtain further information by emailing PrideinPlaceGrants@Peterborough.gov.uk. Applications can be made from Wednesday 1st July 2026 and must be submitted by Friday 31st July 2026, with funding decisions being made in time for projects to be delivered over the summer.
Andrew Pakes MP, a member of the Paston, Gunthorpe and Welland Neighbourhood Board, said:
"Pride in Place is about giving local people a real say in the future of their communities. These grants will help community groups deliver activities and improvements that make an immediate difference to local residents, while also helping us build stronger, more connected neighbourhoods for the future."
Jonathan Jelley MBE JP, Chair of the Paston, Gunthorpe and Welland Neighbourhood Board, said:
"This funding is an important first step in putting local people at the heart of local decision-making. We know that communities already have the ideas, energy and commitment
needed to make their neighbourhoods better places to live. These grants will help turn those ideas into action, supporting projects that bring people together, create opportunities for young people and families, and build greater pride in our area. This is the beginning of a long-term investment in the future of Paston, Gunthorpe and Welland, and we want local organisations to help shape that journey from the very start."
Sam Carling MP, a member of the Orton Malborne and Goldhay Board, said:
"These grants are a great opportunity for local people to deliver projects that benefit residents, brighten up the neighbourhood, and bring communities together over the summer holidays. Pride in Place represents a significant investment in our area, and it's important that local people are at the centre of how the funding is used. I would encourage anyone with ideas to get involved and apply."
Ejaz Moghul, Chair of the Orton Malborne and Goldhay Board, said:
"I am delighted to see the launch of the Summer Pride in Place Grant Scheme, which marks the start of our 10-year, community-led funding project for Orton Goldhay and Orton Malborne. This initiative puts real resources directly into the hands of our residents, providing a fantastic opportunity for our neighbourhoods to showcase their creativity and passion.
“By empowering local groups to lead these summer projects, we are not just funding activities—we are strengthening the very fabric of our communities from the ground up. This scheme will help turn brilliant local ideas into reality."
