Residents, shoppers, businesses, visitors and other interested parties now have until 31 March 2026 to get involved in engagement activities to help shape the future of Peterborough City Centre.

The Peterborough Visioning Project, which was launched in February, is being driven by Peterborough City Council and is being prepared as part of the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority’s Strategic Place Partnership with Homes England to drive housing, economic growth and regeneration in the region.

It aims to bring forward a vision to create a truly inclusive city centre which attracts residents, visitors and new businesses to invest.

Almost 700 people have completed an on-line survey to give their views on how they feel about Peterborough City Centre and how they would like to see it redeveloped in the future.

The council has also organised a series of pop-up events and stakeholder workshops with schools, businesses and other interested parties to gather views and opinions about the city centre’s strength and weaknesses.

Councillor Mohammed Farooq, Cabinet Member for Growth and Regeneration, said: “We are really encouraged to see so many people wanting to get involved in helping us and our partners to put together this vision for the future of Peterborough city centre.

“City centres should be the beating heart of any destination, a place where residents want to spend time with friends and family, a visitors’ destination, a residential area, a thriving businesses district and somewhere that attracts people in from far and wide.

“We want our city centre to be an attractive, accessible destination that people want to visit and spend time.”

“We have decided to extend the survey to give more people the chance to get involved and for the rest of the month will continue to engage with other interested parties.”

The newly approved Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Local Growth Plan (LGP) highlights Peterborough as one of the most important locations for economic growth in the area. The Peterborough Fast Growth City Opportunity Zone aims to drive this growth forward, with investment in transport, housing, and regeneration in the city centre. The Peterborough Visioning Project and Strategic Place Partnership will support those goals, with the LGP ultimately aiming for a tripling of the size of the region’s economy by 2050.

The results of all the engagement exercises will then help shape a vision for the city centre to drive investment and regeneration over the next two decades.

The Peterborough Strategic Place Partnership is a formal collaboration between Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority and Homes England to drive housing, regeneration and economic growth in the region, including in Peterborough - one of the UK’s fastest growing cities.
