Help shape the future of SEND in Peterborough
Your voice matters
Peterborough is changing the way support is provided for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
We want services, schools and families to work together more closely so that children get the right support, at the right time, in their local community.
We need parents and carers to help shape that future.
About SEND reform
SEND reform is about creating a system that:
- Provides support earlier
- Makes services easier to access
- Helps schools meet children's needs more effectively
- Improves inclusion in local communities
- Places families at the heart of decision making
Community Clusters
Peterborough is developing Community Clusters across the city. Clusters will bring together the following groups to work together to understand local needs and improve support for children and young people:
- Families
- Schools and settings
- Health services
- Specialist support services
- Local authority teams
We believe parents and carers are experts
No-one knows your child better than you. That is why we want parents and carers to be recognised as 'experts by experience'. This means parents and carers helping to:
- Share family experiences
- Suggest improvements
- Highlight what is working well
- Identify challenges and barriers
- Help shape local decisions
- Influence improvements to SEND services
How should parents and carers be represented?
We know that parents and carers should have a voice. What we do not know yet is:
- How representatives should be chosen
- How many representatives there should be
- How they should connect with other families
- What support they might need to do the role
That's where you come in. We want to hear your views before any decisions are made.
Complete our survey
The survey, which runs until 25 September 2026, asks for your views on:
- Parent and carer representation
- Community Clusters
- Being an 'expert by experience'
- How we can make sure all families are heard
Your feedback will help us design a model that is inclusive, meaningful and genuinely influential.
