Two men have been ordered to pay £703 by Peterborough Magistrates Court after they were caught on CCTV dumping a mattress on a Peterborough street.
Petre Constantin (46) and Marius Constantin (21) of Gladstone Street, pleaded guilty to fly tipping at Peterborough Magistrates Court yesterday (3 June 2026) after being captured on CCTV carrying a mattress from their home and depositing it on the street on the evening of 10 March 2025.
The court heard the two men were then filmed returning to their home.
An officer from Peterborough City Council's Safer Communities service attended the men's address with police and was able to confirm their identities and take enforcement action.
Both men were given the opportunity to pay a fixed penalty notice to discharge their liability for the offence, but failed to pay. As a consequence, the Safer Communities Service prosecuted both men for fly tipping.
Constantin and Constantin each received a £400 fine and were ordered to pay £160 victim surcharge and £143 in costs.
Councillor Christian Hogg, Cabinet Member for Regulatory Service and Enforcement, said: "This latest court case should serve as a stark reminder to people who do not dispose of their waste responsibly that if there is evidence available we will prosecute. Peterborough is a beautiful city and we do not want our streets and countryside blighted by fly-tippers.
"We also need the public's help as our eyes and ears. If you see someone fly-tipping or you see waste that has been dumped on a street or anywhere in the city, please report it to us. And when you are disposing of waste make sure you are doing so legally and responsibly. If you are paying someone to take away your waste, make sure they have the correct licences to do so."
