When you will hear from us
Once you have submitted the online form, we will send you an acknowledgement email.
If you submitted your form during office hours (9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday), we will contact you on the same working day to discuss your case. If you submitted your form outside of office hours (e.g. evening, weekend, bank holiday), we will contact you on the next working day.
Please note we have no drop-in service at our council offices. If you visit a council office without an appointment, our reception staff will take your contact details and pass them onto the Housing Needs Team as part of a call-back process.
What happens after we receive your form
We will review your case and contact you to discuss. Our most important aim is to prevent you from becoming homeless.
There are different types of support we can offer you. For example, we may offer you advice, emergency accommodation, support to find longer-term housing, or help so you can stay in your current home (if appropriate).
The type of help you get depends on:
- Your eligibility for assistance
- If you’re in priority need
- What caused you to become homeless
We may ask you to attend an appointment with our officers to conduct a homelessness interview. You will need to bring all the relevant documents listed below to the appointment. This makes it easier for us to decide what help you are eligible for.

Before making a referral, a public authority must:

- Have consent that the service user's contact details can be given so the housing authority can contact them regarding the referral
