Dementia

If you are concerned that a family member has dementia, the first step is to arrange for them to see a GP.  You can find some useful information on the NHS website.

The word dementia describes a set of symptoms that may include memory loss and difficulties with thinking, problem-solving or language. Dementia is caused when the brain is damaged by diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease or a series of strokes. Dementia is progressive, which means the symptoms will gradually get worse.

The SUN Network and NHS are looking for your feedback around dementia to help improve support.

If you or someone you care for are on the waiting list for a memory clinic appointment, or have a diagnosis of dementia - they would like to hear from you.

They want to ask specific questions to people in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough about their experiences of the journey of getting a diagnosis of dementia. This information will be anonymously shared with the NHS, who are looking to improve the current care and support that is available for people who are waiting for or have a diagnosis of dementia.

You can either complete the survey

or contact Rachel who will be happy to meet with you or have a phone call to chat:

Assistive Technology

Whilst not a solution for everyone, technology, such as telecare or apps, can work in a variety of ways to empower and support independence, manage risks, improve health and be enjoyable. The overarching principle of assistive technology must ensure that it is in the individual's best interests.

The Alzheimer's Society publish assistive technology sheets that outline the main issues facing people living at home, and recommend technology which could help. Their web pages on assistive technology also have lots more information.
