Our City Impact Team was created in August 2026 with the aim of keeping our city centre clean, safe and welcoming for everyone. In order to do this, the City Impact Team will go back to the basics of being visible, approachable and working with our partner organisations to tackle issues quickly and effectively.
The City Impact Team meets every morning and creates a daily plan for the city centre, coordinating staff more efficiently based on real-time intelligence. It allows teams to communicate with each other throughout the day to report jobs outside their capability / role as and when they are discovered. I.e. a Rough Sleeper Outreach Worker might spot a paint spillage and can log this immediately with the Street Cleaning Team for a quicker result.
In addition, the City Impact Team gathers more intelligence from partner agencies, businesses and each other and uses this to assign the correct number of staff to place on each area.
The City Impact Team works with partners, such as Cambridgeshire Constabulary and Peterborough Positive to monitor and react to issues that need the most focus each day and to work on long-term goals, such as reducing anti-social behaviour. What do the team do? Be visible: officers walk the streets to deter crime and anti-social behaviour.
Work together
They team up with local police and other groups to fix problems fast. Stop rule-breakers: Ensuring everyone who uses our city centre adheres to the Public Space Protection Order rules and using fines where appropriate.
Background
The team grew out of a two-day clean-up project called Operation Horizon. Residents complained about street drinking, litter, and illegal riding. The council formed this permanent group to respond to those concerns.
