The Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS) is a government envisioned, locally produced strategy of prioritising specific habitats and species to result in the best possible outcomes for nature and wildlife.
The Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS) was introduced within the Environment Act 2021 with the purpose to create a cohesive plan to recover nature across England. The Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA) has created an LNRS for the whole combined authority area. Peterborough City Council has worked closely with the CPCA to develop an LNRS that will result in a beautiful and biodiverse landscape and also recommends a series of methods for how it can be achieved.
Peterborough City Council has a responsibility to consider the LNRS in all planning applications. Where a planning application and the LNRS intersect, landscaping should be designed to align with the proposals within the LNRS.
The LNRS was published in December 2025 and is available on the CPCA website, along with other supporting documents.
