As the Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA), we are responsible for the coordination and management of flood risk across Peterborough. Our duties include:
- Cleansing our drainage assets, including roadside gullies.
- Preparing and maintaining a Flood Risk Management Strategy for Peterborough.
- Playing a lead role in emergency planning and recovery after a flood event. As a local authority, we are a 'category one responder' under the Civil Contingencies Act.
- Investigating major flooding incidents to determine the cause and impact of the flooding, who the responsible agencies area, and what actions might be taken to prevent future flooding incidents. Formal Section 19 flood investigations as required under the Flood and Water Management Act 2010.
- Acting as a statutory consultee for planning developments, including reviewing surface water drainage for developments.
- Regulating activities on ordinary watercourses through our powers under the Land Drainage Act 1991.

There are several different authorities and organisations who may be responsible for managing a flood - e.g. the Environment Agency, Peterborough City Council or Anglian Water. Responsibility depends on the source of the flooding and where the flooding is happening.
