Simple workplace pledges and how employers can help
Most of us spend a big chunk of the day at work — so it’s one of the best places to weave in movement. The Department for Public Health Annual report encourages whole city action, and that includes employers making small, practical changes that fit local jobs and realities.
Ideas to try
-
Walking 1:1s where possible.
-
Sign‑posted stair routes and safe lunchtime walk maps.
-
A monthly “active commute” day with recognition for participants.
-
Encourage standing or stretching breaks during team meetings.
-
Organise short walking groups after lunch or during breaks.
-
Allow flexible work hours so staff can fit in a morning or afternoon walk.
-
Share “step challenges” and reward participation with small prizes.
-
Display posters promoting local walking or cycling routes.
Call to action
If you manage a team, pick one of the ideas above and pilot it for a month.
