Residents, businesses and community groups are being invited to have their say on the future of two neighbourhoods as part of the Pride in Place investment in the city - a major, long-term investment designed to support community-led regeneration
A special listening exercise is launching today which encourages residents to share their views on what matters most in their neighbourhoods.
Pride in Place will see up to £40million pledged for community enhancement across two areas - Paston, Gunthorpe and Welland and Orton Malborne and Orton Goldhay.
Through Pride in Place, local people will play a central role in deciding how funding is used to improve their areas, with a focus on strengthening communities, creating thriving places and putting decision-making power into local hands.
As part of the listening exercise, residents can get involved in the following ways:
- Have your say online by completing a short survey:
- Take part in person — a programme of local engagement events and activities will be taking place in each area, offering opportunities to speak directly with the team and share feedback face-to-face. Details will be announced soon.
Everyone is welcome to take part, including residents, local organisations, businesses and anyone with a connection to the areas. Feedback gathered will help shape local priorities and inform how investment is delivered over the coming years, ensuring that plans reflect the needs and ambitions of the community.
Regular updates on the listening exercise, including upcoming events and findings, will be published on the Pride in Place website pages and shared on the social media groups for each area.
Neighbourhood boards covering both areas are currently being set up and earlier this year Jonathan Jelley MBE JP was appointed to chair the Paston, Gunthorpe and Welland Board, and Ejaz Moghul to chair the Orton Malborne and Goldhay Board. The neighbourhood boards will lead the programme to support long-term improvements in the areas based on the feedback from the listening exercise.
Jonathan Jelley MBE JP, Chair of the Paston, Gunthorpe and Welland Neighbourhood Board, said: "Paston, Gunthorpe and Welland are communities with great strengths, ambitions and potential. Pride in Place is a once-in-a-generation opportunity, but its success depends on local people shaping the future of their neighbourhoods.
"I encourage everyone to take part in the listening exercise and share their ideas, priorities and aspirations. Together, we can ensure this investment delivers lasting change and creates stronger, safer and more vibrant communities for years to come."
Ejaz Moghul, Chair of the Orton Malborne and Goldhay Board, said: "I am incredibly proud to lead the Pride in Place board for Orton Malborne and Orton Goldhay. Real change happens when decisions are made by the people who live here, and this investment is our chance to tackle the everyday issues that matter most to us.
"As Chair, my priority is to ensure this funding is entirely community-led. Every voice—whether you are a parent, a local business owner, or a young person—is essential, and I want to make sure it is heard and acted upon. I warmly encourage everyone to take a few minutes to complete our survey or join us at an upcoming event. This is our neighbourhood and our future; please tell us what you want to see so we can build a plan that truly reflects the heart of the Ortons."
Andrew Pakes MP said: “Pride in Place is about putting power back where it belongs, in the hands of local people who know their streets, parks and community spaces best. This listening exercise is the first step in making sure every decision about this £40 million investment starts with what residents, community groups and local businesses say matters most.
"I want every voice to be heard so that together we can turn your ideas into a long‑term plan for safer streets, better services, and stronger neighbourhoods we can all be proud of.”
Sam Carling MP said: “The Pride in Place funding from the Government will make a massive difference to people’s lives across Orton. It’s so exciting that we are now beginning to use the funding, and so it’s an ideal time to get involved and share your views about how we can use this transformational investment to make a real difference.”
