Parents of children in the last year of primary school found out today (Monday 2 March) which secondary school their child has been offered a place at from September 2026, with 96.89% of pupils allocated a place at one of their three preference schools.

In total of 94.22% of pupils were allocated a place at either their first or second preference school and 83.81% of pupils received a place at their first preference school for 2026/27.

Overall, 2,926 offers were made to Peterborough schools.

Councillor Katy Cole, Cabinet Member for Children's Services, said: “In recent years we have seen unprecedented numbers of pupils joining Peterborough primary schools in Year 6, resulting in greater demand for secondary school places than predicted. This year we have actively worked to get ahead of the game, creating far more school places to help ensure as many children as possible are offered one of their three preferences.

“To have over 96 per cent of pupils getting a place at one of their preferred schools is an excellent outcome and I would like to thank parents and carers for getting their applications in on time. By doing so, this gives them the best chance of securing a place at one of their three preference schools. I would also like to thank our dedicated admissions team for their excellent work at this busy time of year, processing and allocating thousands of places to children in this city.”

Parents will also receive an email today giving details of how they should accept or decline their offer and the appeal process should they wish to appeal the place their child has been offered.

Those parents that applied on a paper application will have their outcome posted to them today, 2 March 2026. The letter will advise them how to accept or decline their offered places and inform them of the appeal process should they wish to appeal the place their child has been offered.

All school place offers must be accepted by 16 March 2026 to ensure a school place is secured for September 2026.
