Peterborough City Council has officially opened the doors to its newest Family Hub at Gladstone Park Community Centre, marking a significant milestone in the authority's commitment to supporting families across the city.
The new hub makes it easier for parents, carers and young people to access the help and support they need by bringing together different services and types of support under one roof. This is the fifth Family Hub to launch in Peterborough, following the successful rollout of hubs across the city over the past three years.
The centre already serves as a vibrant community space, offering a range of services and activities that bring residents together. The Family Hub will operate alongside the existing community centre provision, with no plans to change or replace the services that residents already know and value. Launching a Family Hub here creates a truly inclusive space where the whole community can engage with one another and also find the help and support they need. This approach reduces barriers to accessing services and ensures that seeking support feels welcoming and easily accessible.
The breadth of services available from the Gladstone Park Family Hub includes parenting and feeding advice, support with wellbeing and mental health, early language development, housing support, and courses for parents. The hub will offer a Family Hubs service every weekday from 9am to 4pm, with additional activities and support sessions planned throughout the week.
The launch comes thanks to the extension of government funding, enabling Peterborough City Council to expand its Family Hubs programme to serve even more families across the city. The facility has undergone a comprehensive refurbishment to create a warm, welcoming space where families can access vital services and connect with their community via the Family Hub.
Family Hubs provide services for children and their families from birth to 25 years old (for those with special educational needs), providing a central point of contact that makes it quicker and simpler for families to get practical support.
Councillor Katy Cole, Cabinet Member for Children's Services for Peterborough City Council, said: "We are absolutely delighted to open the doors to our newest Family Hub at Gladstone Park Community Centre. This Hub is something the local ward councillors have been calling for, and it's wonderful to see this vision become a reality for families in the area.
"Family Hubs have been incredibly successful across our other sites, and we're thrilled to bring this offer to Gladstone Park. By improving access to services and bringing whole-family support to the community, children, young people and families can get the right support at the earliest opportunity."
The opening was attended by Cllr Cole along with North ward members including Cllr Noreen Bi and Cllr Zameer Ali and Peterborough MP Andrew Pakes. Also in attendance were families from the local community, staff members, and representatives from partner organisations who will be delivering services at the hub. Services will be delivered by Peterborough City Council staff and partner organisations including the NHS Healthy Child Programme and various voluntary sector organisations.
The launch of the Gladstone Park Hub is part of Peterborough City Council's broader strategy to enhance community engagement and support. The council has been working closely with local organisations and partners to ensure that the hub meets the needs of the community and provides valuable resources for residents.
