If physical activity were a medicine, doctors would call it a miracle cure. It can help:

  • Prevent and manage long-term conditions
  • Improve mental wellbeing, and add healthy years to our lives

The good news is you don’t need a gym membership to start. Gardening, walking to the shops, playing with the kids, dancing while you cook — it all counts.

The Director of Public Health Annual Report focuses on movement in all its everyday forms and encourages people to pick the sections that help them get going.

You’ll see the phrase: “some activity is good, more is better.” That’s the spirit of this year’s report and of the citywide Peterborough Get Moving campaign - a year-long programme to make moving more the easy choice for all of us!

How you can get started

Do three things today to help you move more

  • Break up sitting: stand for calls, stretch during breaks
  • Swap one short drive a week for a 10–15 minute walk
  • Buddy up: agree one regular “move together” slot with a friend or neighbour

Our challenge this week

Pick one change you can do today - then tell a friend. Small steps add up.
