We provide residents in Peterborough with rolls of liners for use in the food waste bin. Each roll has 40 liners. Once you’ve used up your roll, you can request another from us by following one of the options below.

Please consider the environment when using the liners. We estimate that around three liners a week is reasonable and provide them to you free of charge on that basis.

We don’t have an unlimited stock of liners so monitor how many we deliver and where. We will not provide a single household with more than four rolls per year.

Options for getting more liners for your food bin

Option 1 - request a new roll on your bin collection day

Let us know if you need a new roll by tying a liner or plastic bag to your outdoor food bin lid on collection day.

Our Collection Crew will then provide you with a new roll of liners when they empty your bin. They’ll remove the liner from your bin lid to avoid another delivery the following week.

Option 2 - visit a liner roll pick-up location

We have launched an alternative method you can use for obtaining new rolls of food bin liners.

You can now collect up to two rolls, free of charge, from one of the following locations in Peterborough. The rolls are given out by staff in the buildings and are only available to collect during the opening hours specified below.

Further information

There are different arrangements in place for residents of flats in Peterborough. You can't obtain rolls of liners using the two methods stated on this page.

If you need food bin liners and you live in a flat, you'll need to either request these through your landlord or management company, or alternatively source your own from a supermarket or retailer.

Visit our flats with shared communal bins page for more information about disposing of household waste if you live in a flat.

You can place food waste directly into your food bin. If you want to try and keep your food bin clean, you could use one of the following alternatives:

  • Newspaper
  • Plastic bags
  • Paper bags
  • Supermarket-bought food waste bags

We will remove these as part of the waste treatment process.

If you don't receive a roll of liners after tying a liner to your food caddy on collection day, please keep the liner on for a delivery the following week.

If you still don't receive a roll of liners, please email us at recycling@peterborough.gov.uk.

Visit our grey bin (food waste) page for a list of the items you can and cannot put into your grey food waste bin.

If you need to order a new or replacement food bin, either indoor or outdoor, please visit our order bins page.

We provide all households in Peterborough with a supply of food bin liners to place inside the indoor grey food waste bin. Once the liner is full of food waste, you then transfer it to the larger grey food bin outside. We’ll empty it during the weekly food waste collection.

Collected food waste is sent to an anaerobic digestion facility in Hertfordshire where it’s turned into fertiliser for agriculture and biogas which is used to generate renewable electricity for homes. The liners are removed as part of the treatment process.
