Congratulations on your engagement!

Celebrating your relationship with a legal marriage or civil partnership is a special way to commemorate the love you share.

Here at Peterborough Registration Service, we want your focus to be on enjoying your special day, which is why we’re on hand to guide you through the process. As we deliver hundreds of ceremonies every year, we’re experts in making sure that yours is memorable.

Getting a passport in your new name

If you are changing your surname and going abroad immediately after your ceremony, you can apply to the Passport Service up to three months in advance for a passport in your new name. The passport will be post-dated to the date of the ceremony and will not be valid for use until the ceremony has taken place.

View more guidance on changing your name on your passport on the GOV.UK website.

To apply, you may download and print the PD2 form from the GOV.UK website or visit any Passport Office.

Part 1 of the PD2 form requires completion by the Superintendent Registrar in the district where your ceremony will take place.

If your ceremony is taking place in the Peterborough registration district, please contact us to:

  • Make arrangements for the Superintendent Registrar to complete Part 1 of the PD2 form
  • Pay the £40 administration fee
  • Discuss whether we can process your request over the phone or whether you need an appointment to visit the Register Office

Telephone: 01733 864646 (open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm).

Please be aware that we operate a call back service. It can take up to a week for us to return your call. Please allow enough time for your application to be made. After the call or the appointment, you will need to complete Part 2 of the PD2 form yourself and submit it with your passport application.
