Information you need to know

Before you make a ceremony booking, please read the information on choosing a ceremony type, choosing a ceremony venue and giving notice.

Please also read the drop-down box  below that applies to you. It will explain how to make your booking and when to do it.

If you have your ceremony at Peterborough Register Office, you will need to contact us to book the ceremony room and registrars.

Ceremony packages

We have three ceremony packages available at Peterborough Register Office:

When you can book and availability

At Peterborough Register Office, ceremonies can take place:

  • On Mondays and Fridays for the couple and two witnesses package
  • On Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays for the Thorpe and Lawns packages

We are not open for any ceremonies on bank holidays.

There must be at least 28 clear days between you both giving notice and the date of the ceremony. In some cases, depending on your nationality and immigration status, 70 clear days may be required.

You must book your ceremony with us before making an appointment to give notice.

We can take ceremony bookings up to one year in advance.

Fees

We have published the fees for each ceremony package on the pages above.

Payment of the full ceremony fee (plus one certificate fee of £12.50) is required at the time of booking. We take this over the phone so please have your payment card ready. 

How to book

If you contact us by telephone, our Customer Services Team will take your details and pass them onto the Register Office Ceremonies Team. They will then respond to your enquiry.

Emails go directly to the Register Office Ceremonies Team.

Whichever way you contact us, please provide the following information:

  • Full names of couple
  • Home address
  • Telephone number we can call you on weekdays, between 9am and 4pm
  • Where and when you are having your ceremony

Please note it may take up to two weeks for us to respond to you.

If your ceremony will be at a licensed venue in Peterborough, you will need to contact us to book the registrars.

We don't take bookings on behalf of the licensed ceremony venues for room hire etc. You will need to contact them yourself to arrange this. We recommend you provisionally book your date and time with the licensed venue before booking the registrars with us.

When you can book and availability

Our registrars can conduct ceremonies at licensed venues in Peterborough on any day of the week (excluding bank holidays).

There must be at least 28 clear days between you both giving notice and the date of the ceremony. In some cases, depending on your nationality and immigration status, 70 clear days may be required.

You must book the registrars for your ceremony before making an appointment to give notice.

We can take bookings up to one year in advance.

Fees

  • Mondays to Fridays - 2026/27 = £600
  • Saturdays - 2026/27 = £675
  • Sundays - 2026/27 = £730
  • Mondays to Fridays - 2027/28 = £625
  • Saturdays - 2027/28 = £700
  • Sundays - 2027/28 = £755

How to book

If you want to have a legal ceremony at a religious venue in Peterborough, but they do not have an authorised person to complete the legal requirements, you will need to contact us to book a registrar to attend.

Please note that the venue itself must be authorised for legal marriage ceremonies.

Fees

The fee for this service is £114.50.

We accept payment by card only.

How to book

If your ceremony is to take place outside of Peterborough, but within England and Wales, you will need to contact the Register Office for that particular district to book a registrar.

If you want to marry or register a civil partnership abroad, you’ll need to follow the process in your chosen country. You might need certain documents to prove you’re free to marry or register a civil partnership. Visit our getting married abroad page for more information.

Amendments and cancellations

Please read the following information carefully so you know about fees you may have to pay if you amend or cancel your ceremony.

  • In the event that you need to change the date of your ceremony a £30 administration fee will be payable
  • In the event that you need to change the time of your ceremony (but not the date) no administration fee will be charged

Contact the Register Office:

In the event that you need to cancel a ceremony for which you have already paid, you will need to put your cancellation in writing. You can email us at peterboroughregisteroffice@peterborough.gov.uk.

Cancellations are subject to the following guidelines:

  • Six months or more before the ceremony date - full refund (less a £30 administration fee)
  • Three to six months before the ceremony date - 50% refund (less a £30 administration fee)
  • Less than three months before the ceremony date, or failure to request a cancellation - no refund
