Peterborough Guildhall

A vibrant, mixed-use core that brings energy back into the high street, brings new uses to old buildings, supports new homes and jobs, and reshapes the centre as a place that celebrates its existing heritage and assets to improve experience for all, day and night.

The city centre is the beating heart of Peterborough with a long and historic past.

But we are also a city with our sights set firmly on the future. We are investing in our city centre to ensure it will be a place that residents, visitors and businesses want to be for many years to come.

The majestic Norman Cathedral, the Grade II listed 350-year-old Guildhall, St John’s Church, and Cathedral Square, are just a few of its many assets.

We want to redevelop prime sites with the city centre to make it the thriving, exciting place our residents, visitors and businesses deserve.

Already we are working on plans to create two new hubs of activity in the city centre as part of the Vine Project. We are investing in the transformation of Central Library into a modern digitally focused library service that provides spaces to welcome the community. We are also refurbishing Peterscourt, a Grade II listed building, into a vibrant business incubator that fosters the development of innovative start-ups and contributes to the economic vitality of the local community.

There are many more sites in Peterborough primed for development.

Come and talk to us about the opportunities we have at UK REiiF 2026 or email growthandregeneration@peterborough.gov.uk.

Shaping the future of the city centre

We are at the beginning of an exciting journey for Peterborough City Centre - to transform the heart of the city into a place where our residents want to spend their leisure time, that attracts visitors from far and wide, and in which businesses want to invest.

Energy Investment Opportunity

We are seeking a development partner to design, finance, construct and operate a portfolio of energy assets across the city. Using strong data capabilities, we have developed a potential £320M+ energy efficiency and decarbonisation investment pipeline.

The programme is structured as a portfolio of investable projects rather than a collection of one-off interventions, designed to give partners the confidence to commit capital, and the flexibility to engage at a scale that suits their appetite.

  • Local Energy Infrastructure - Heat Networks
  • Public Estate and Housing Retrofit
  • Transport Decarbonisation - Car Park Solar
  • Energy Generation - Solar and Wind

Please contact climatechange@peterborough.gov.uk to discuss investment opportunities.
