Alongside the national youth charity OnSide, we are developing proposals and funding opportunities for a Youth Zone on the Embankment.
We are proposing a purpose-built facility and talking to lots of interested parties including young people to get their views on this.
Once delivered, it will be a state-of-the-art space designed specifically for young people aged 8 to 19, or up to 25, for those with disabilities or additional needs.
Run by OnSide, it will be open seven days a week, offer affordable access to sports, arts, and life-enhancing activities, all supported by dedicated youth workers. Its mission is to inspire, support, and equip young people with the confidence, skills, and opportunities they need to thrive.
OnSide has already built several Youth Zones across the country from Carlisle to London.
All of these centres are providing services to young people, seven days a week, 52 weeks a year, helping to change lives. We want Peterborough to join that network, and benefit from the amazing work OnSide do.
We have concluded RIBA stage 2 and are now exploring funding options to take the project forward onto RIBA stage 3 which includes submission of a planning application.
Alongside this, we are actively exploring a range of potential funding opportunities to support delivery of the project, including monitoring the anticipated next round of the Better Youth Spaces fund which is expected later this year.
Once funding for the next phase of design is agreed, residents will be further consulted.
The aims of the Youth Zone in Peterborough include:
- To improve the prospects of young people in the city
- To provide a safe, inclusive, and inspiring space for young people to develop skills and confidence
- To gather feedback from a wide range of people, including a strong focus on young people
