An impression of the proposed new Leisure development
External design view of the new swimming pool and leisure centre.

A distinctive civic quarter where further education, sport, culture and the river come together to create a healthier, greener and inclusive heart to the city, supported by a new community of housing at Middleholme.

A new sports and leisure zone bringing together innovation and history, where a new £36 million Leisure Centre and indoor swimming pool and the modern ARU Peterborough University campus sit alongside the 90-year-old Art Deco outdoor Lido and the Key Theatre on the Embankment. Proposals for a state-of-the-art Youth Zone facility giving young people a place to meet, build their confidence and skills are also focussed on this area.

Before long, residents and visitors passing by the moored house boats and leisure craft on the north bank will be able to cross over the new, modern, Cygnet Bridge linking pedestrians and cyclists between the sports and leisure quarter and the regenerated Fletton Quays on the city’s south bank, with its offices, food and drinks outlets, and the Peterborough United ground.
