The Vine Library, Culture and Community Hub

A refurbished Central Library city centre hub and a communal food and beverage hall are proposed to deliver The Vine for Peterborough. This replaces the previous plan to use the former TK Maxx building in Bridge Street.

The change of approach to deliver The Vine across two sites was proposed at the Peterborough Towns Fund board meeting on Wednesday 10 May 2023.

The Government provided the city with £13million to deliver the scheme.

A full refurbishment will take place at the Central Library. This will transform the 1980s building into a light and airy modern library. It will be complete with a thriving community hub which will also deliver a business / education offering.

Visitors will be able to:

  • Browse books
  • Socialise
  • Grab a coffee
  • Attend a yoga class
  • Buy goods from independent traders
  • Set up and run small businesses
  • Learn new skills and attend courses
  • Visit a range of exhibitions and events

The Vine will provide a place to work and visit, drawing footfall to the city centre and supporting the local economy.

This will be complemented by a second building at another city centre site. It will be home to a multitude of food and beverage takeaway restaurants and bars, with a communal dining area in the centre.
