  • A cafe
  • Spaces for community group activities

Project status

Planning permission for this project was originally granted in March 2021.

Phase one, which included the infrastructure and car park, were completed in 2023. £1.45million was secured for this part of the project from the Government’s Towns Fund.

Towns Fund monies together with Levelling Up funding now form part of the council’s Regeneration Fund.

Nene Park Trust has stated that plans for phase two – the activity centre itself – have been revised. Proposals for the new all-weather sporting venue now sit on a 30 per cent smaller footprint with a shorter 22m tower.

The revised activity centre will offer residents and visitors an exciting new year-round indoor leisure and sporting venue with a primary focus on bouldering, a popular form of climbing. The centre will also include a small café, accessible toilets and changing rooms.

Phase 2 will be built in two stages – the 22m tower will be constructed in the second stage when funding becomes available.

Nene Park Trust is proposing to submit these revised plans to the council in April 2026 and construction is expected to start in the autumn with the facility opening by the end of 2027.
