Embankment Masterplan

A plan for a welcoming, green and accessible place to relax and enjoy for leisure and entertainment, linking in with the new university and increasing footfall to and from the city centre.

Embankment Masterplan Framework

We published the Embankment Masterplan following a public consultation in autumn / winter 2021.

It sets out an exciting vision and framework for the future of this important part of the city that includes:

  • A new City Riverside Park
  • Anglia Ruskin Peterborough University Campus
  • Cultural Quarter built around the Key Theatre

Should an arena be brought forward, the Masterplan also shows how we might accommodate this.

Project status

Stantec and Barton Wilmore, an independent consultant team, were appointed to lead the project. The team started the masterplan process in August 2020.

In autumn / winter 2021, they carried out a public consultation, which saw 1,400 initial responses to a survey on how people currently use the Embankment. There were 780 responses to the four options that were developed for public comment.

The team submitted their final report to Peterborough City Council on 25 March 2022.

Officers and Members are now considering the masterplan to assess its viability and deliverability.

In the future, it could potentially inform a review of the Local Plan for some or further areas of this land.

This project is complete.
