Bus Route Schemes - Moving Traffic Enforcement
There are a number of routes across the city that are reserved for buses only – these routes give priority to public transport bus operators to provide a fast and efficient service across the city. Bus routes can take a number of forms including:
- Bus gates - a short passage of road between two points for buses to pass through to allow bus services to make the fastest, shortest and most efficient journey.
- Busways - a longer stretch of carriageway that is only for buses. This allows them to travel between different areas and links them together to form a linear or circular route that supports many communities.
- Bus Lanes - a dedicated lane of an ordinary road that segregates buses from other road users, enabling public transport to move through congestion.
Each of the above may have it’s own rules attached and may permit other vehicles to use the route as well – such as motorcycles or taxis. This will be clearly indicated on the signage used to indicate the restriction.
Due to persistent reports and evidence of misuse by unauthorised vehicles, the council has chosen to exercise its moving traffic enforcement powers and operate enforcement schemes in the following locations:
- Apollo Avenue / Peterborough Road , Stanground - bus gate (coming soon)
- Bellona Drive / Whittlesey Road, Stanground - bus gate (coming soon)
