List of streets
The list of streets is a document we are required to provide under Section 36(6) of the Highways Act 1980. The document lists all highways maintainable at public expense in Peterborough. These are also known as 'adopted roads' or 'adopted highways'.
Estate roads constructed by developers
We are committed to adopting residential and industrial estate roads that have been constructed in accordance with the attached Construction Specification 2025 by direct reference and adherence in a legal agreement completed under a section 38/278 of the Highways Act 1980. Residential roads serving fewer than 10 dwellings will not be considered for adoption.
With effect from 1 April 2025, the Estate Road Construction Specification has been updated to ensure developers are fully aware of the Authority's requirements when constructing highways for adoption.
It will be subject to periodic updates, please refer to the PERCS Register of Amendments document to ensure that you hold the latest version of this document. The Appendices documents from the Estate Road Construction Specification are also available in .dwg format below, which also contains a disclaimer which must be included on all drawings produced using these standard details.
Please also find below the Department for Transport Advice Note - Highway Adoptions dated April 2017, which developers, agents, consultants and members of the public considering purchasing a new build home will find useful.
If you require any further information, please email us on: HDteam@peterborough.gov.uk.
Street Lighting Design Service
The Street Lighting team can provide a street light design on behalf of the Developer to be submitted as part of the S38/S278 Application process.
This is an optional service and can be requested by contacting HDteam@peterborough.gov.uk.
The street lighting design should then be submitted alongside any Section 38/Section 278 submission.
Generally, these services help to ensure compliance with the council’s requirements and minimises the risk of delay to the adoption process. The council will also accept third party designs, but they need to be submitted, reviewed and approved as part of the technical appraisal process.
