Residents in Peterborough are being reminded that the council will operate on special opening hours over the Christmas and New Year period.
People can contact the council’s customer call centre for general enquiries, but the centre will only be open on certain dates and times.
The call centre team will be working until 12pm on Christmas Eve and then from 9am to 5pm between Christmas and New year - with the exception of benefits, council tax, electoral and parking lines (these will be closed for the Christmas period and re-open on Friday 2 January).
Please also bear in mind that the call centre traditionally receives a high volume of calls in the run up to Christmas, so calls may take longer than normal to be answered.

Customers are reminded that the reception at Peterborough Town Hall closes at 12pm on Christmas Eve and re-opens on Monday 5 January. Sand Martin House will remain open throughout the festive period as some services will continue to operate. However, the main reception door will close at 12:30pm on Christmas Eve and will reopen to the public at 9am on Friday 2 January.

Household Recycling Centre

Taxi licensing appointments
The council's Taxi licensing appointment service closes for Christmas from 5pm on Thursday 18 December and will re-open on Thursday 8 January 2026.
Housing support
The council's Housing Needs Department will be closed for all non-emergency enquiries from 12pm on Christmas Eve until 9am on 2 January. If you are homeless due to an emergency and have nowhere to stay please call 01733 864157.
The Housing Needs Jigsaw Portal will be closed from 11am on Christmas Eve until 9am on 2 January.
Household Support Fund / Cost of Living Hubs
Many of the council's Cost of Living Support Hubs will have reduced hours over the Christmas period, please check www.peterborough.gov.uk before visiting.
