Coronavirus (COVID-19) update:
Register Office: The office is open for pre-booked appointments only. For all other enquiries please call 01733 864646.
Ceremonies: The Government announced on 23 June that ceremonies will be allowed to take place from 4 July. Please do not ring or email us for information about this just yet, although it is appreciated that couples are seeking clarification about their ceremony and the restrictions that will be in place. We will be in a position to issue guidance in the next couple of days and will update our website with further information. Thank you for your patience.
Birth registrations: It is now possible to make an appointment to register the birth of your baby. Please note that there is a large backlog of births to register in Peterborough due to the national suspension of this service at the end of March - this means that you will have to wait longer for an appointment than would usually be the case. Thank you for your patience.
To book your appointment please go to the Register a birth page of our website
Death registrations: Registrations will take place over the telephone. You must not come to the Register Office. Please ensure the contact number you give us when making your appointment is correct as this is the number the registrar will phone you on to complete the registration. During the call, the registrar will explain the process for the paperwork.
Notice of marriage/civil partnership appointments: As ceremonies are allowed from 4 July we will be contacting, in ceremony date order, those couples who need to give their notice of intention. Please bear with us at this exceptionally busy time.
Citizenship Ceremonies: Following guidance from the government on 23 March 2020, all ceremonies have been cancelled until further notice.
Certificates: Orders can only be taken for certificates from recently registered births and deaths. The priority service is suspended.
EUSS service: This service is not currently being offered.
Updated: 1 July 2020
A naming ceremony is designed to provide a dignified and formal opportunity to welcome a new member to the family and to the community.
During the non-religious ceremony you can announce the names that you have chosen, make commitment promises to your child and also choose other adults to provide support. Family and friends are usually invited to share in the occasion.
These ceremonies are not just for babies - children of any age can have a naming ceremony. A commemorative certificate will be signed and presented as part of the ceremony.
Renewal of vows
The ceremony can be associated with a special anniversary but is just as appropriate for couples at any stage of their marriage or partnership who wish to celebrate their commitment to each other.
A commemorative certificate of the renewal of vows ceremony will be signed and presented during the event.
This non-religious ceremony is chosen by you to create a unique event to be remembered and shared by your family and friends.
Our fee includes a commemorative certificate of the occasion and a personalised copy of your ceremony script which will be presented to you as a lasting memento of the day. At the booking appointment we will discuss your ceremony requirements and collect the appropriate fee. We accept payment by cash, cheque/postal order or credit/debit card.
